چکیده

The function of the glymphatic system was evaluated by T1-weighted MRI after intracisternal DOTA-Gd (Dotarem, Guerbet, France) microinjection (1 μL for 1 minute). We modified a previously reported method by using a pulled hematological glass micropipette (Figure I in the online-only Data Supplement). Regions of interest for subsequent signal analyses were selected as shown in Figure II in the online-only Data Supplement. Common carotid artery occlusion, SAH, and collagenase-induced intracerebral hemorrhage were performed as previously described. Embolic ischemic stroke was performed as described in the online-only Data Supplement. For immunohistological studies, sodium fluorescein (5 μg per mouse; Sigma-Aldrich, France) or FITC-Dextran (5 μg per mouse; Sigma-Aldrich) were injected in the cisterna magna.

Impaired glymphatic perfusion after strokes revealed by contrast-enhanced MRI: a new target for fibrinolysis?

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of different stroke subtypes on the glymphatic system using MRI. METHODS We first improved and characterized an in vivo protocol to measure the perfusion of the glymphatic system using MRI after minimally invasive injection of a gadolinium chelate within the cisterna magna. Then, the integrity of the glymphatic ...

Quantification of blood-brain-barrier permeability dysregulation and inflammatory activity in MS lesions by dynamic-contrast enhanced MR imaging

Objective: Measurement of blood-brain permeability dysfunction in active and chronic MS lesions with T1-weighted dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to show variation in inflammatory activity Background: blood-brain-barrier perfusion characterization impaired in MS as some studies have shown recently buta comparison between perfusion parameters in contrast-enhanced and non-enhanced lesions not have ...

Brain-wide pathway for waste clearance captured by contrast-enhanced MRI.

The glymphatic system is a recently defined brain-wide paravascular pathway for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and interstitial fluid (ISF) exchange that facilitates efficient clearance of solutes and waste from the brain. CSF enters the brain along para-arterial channels to exchange with ISF, which is in turn cleared from the brain along para-venous pathways. Because soluble amyloid β clearance dep...

MRI with intrathecal MRI gadolinium contrast medium administration: a possible method to assess glymphatic function in human brain

Recently, the "glymphatic system" of the brain has been discovered in rodents, which is a paravascular, transparenchymal route for clearance of excess brain metabolites and distribution of compounds in the cerebrospinal fluid. It has already been demonstrated that intrathecally administered gadolinium (Gd) contrast medium distributes along this route in rats, but so far not in humans. A 27-year...

Delayed contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for the detection of autoimmune myocarditis and long-term follow-up.

MRI proved to be a valuable tool for the evaluation and monitoring of myocarditis. We report the case of a 36 year old caucasian male with an undifferentiated collagenosis who presented first four years ago with unspecific symptoms and impaired exercise capacity. On echocardiography left ventricular function was impaired as well as on MRI. In addition, after administration of Gd-DTPA an intramy...
